Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive Technology

GREENER DRIVING

Planet Ark encourages ‘greener driving' by the mass market, based on currently available production motor vehicle technologies.

Specifically, Toyota's HYBRID SYNERGY DRIVE has been endorsed for the following reasons:

  •  Reduced Fuel consumption
  •  Reduced Greenhouse Gas emissions
  •  Reduced air pollutants

Toyota HSD has demonstrated that it can deliver 35% to 50% reductions of these over the life of a vehicle, versus comparable petrol vehicles. (Testing in USA has demonstrated up to 80% reduction in smog-producing emissions.

The new Toyota Camry Hybrid is the most advanced car every built in Australia and the only family-sized car with a 5 Star Green Vehicle Guide rating.

Toyota's 3rd Generation Prius is rated the cleanest performing car on the Australian government's official ‘Green Vehicle Guide'.

Personal transport produces approximately a quarter of a motorist's ‘carbon footprint', about 80% due to fuel consumed over the life of the vehicle, and about 20% due to ‘embodied' energy in materials and production of the vehicle.

Consequently, the more durable a vehicle and the longer its operational life, the greater is the importance of fuel consumption on its overall environmental footprint.

HSD optimises petrol-plus-electric power and ‘harvests' kinetic energy from the vehicle's momentum via regenerative braking. This dramatically slashes fuel consumption and reduces operational impact by up to 50% over comparable conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles

HSD fuel reductions consequently reduce the emission of greenhouse gas (CO2) and other pollutants such as sulphur dioxide, nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide and sub-10 micron particles.

The technology that achieves this is established in the Australian marketplace by three generations of the Toyota Prius Hybrid and now the Toyota Camry Hybrid. The technology is also deployed in a range of Lexus models in Australia.
